Default Time for a new transmission?

Lately the big truck feels like its towing 12,000 lbs even tho its empty, egt's are climbing with ease. Last trip pulling the buggy it could not keep a speed faster than 50 mph, it could get to 55 keeping the pedal mashed but when you backed off it would slowly lose speed to about 48 mph. Usually it will pull to 55and shift into overdrive and keep accelerating but not anymore. Cruising empty thru town in o/d the egt's are around 850, downshift to 3rd and they drop considerably, figuring the T/C is slipping.

What recommendations should go into building a better tranny, or buying a completed unit ready to go? I can swap a completed unit locally, I also have a friend with excellent tranny experience that could rebuild mine, he's just not a CTD guy, if I gave him a parts list he can make it happen.

I'll install a 4" exhaust while I'm at it, I'm hoping to be able to pull around 10k lbs in o/d around 70-75mph to keep up with the maniacs on the highway.

Please try to keep your advice under $4,000 American please....

New wheels, couldn't get 33x16.5 BFG's anymore so I went with a 16" wheel and 295 75's.

Gator, it's what's for dinner....

I would call Dave Goerend and he will send you the parts needed to build a great tranny, or you can get one of his and swap it out. http://www.goerend.com/

Yep, time for a new Goerends. A shop up the road installs them and I'll be making arrangements next week. I've never been so excited to spend $4k....

Are you sure you haven't developed a leak in the charge-air plumbing? (loss of power, EGTs going up).

Our non lock-up converters don't have anything to wear out parse. Still, they loose a lot of power. Upgrading to one of the better established company's converters along with a quality, standard rebuild will easily support 350HP reliably.

My new Goerend transmission is beyond fantastic, even better it was done by Inline Performance in central Florida, the same guys that do all the technical work for MoparMuscle magazine. They turned the pump up too and man what a difference, this 6,500 lb truck gets up and moves like Dodge never intended. They also found the vibration that came with the conversion, the yolk on the rearend was splayed. I made matters worse by increasing the tire size from the highway sized 16.5 x 9.5 to a set of BFG 295's that are a little taller than 33's. The egt's increased by 150-200* not to mention the excelleration lag. So...

A new set of custom 3.73 gears for the rearend from Randy's Ring and pinion(Dodge said only 3.55 and 4.10 were available) are now in the middle of the 500 mile break-in. Wow what a difference. Egt's are back to normal not to mention it really boogies when you apply the go peddle, bury it and a generous haze of smoke appears in the rear view. The speedo now reads perfect according to the GPS so I'm pretty confident I nailed the perfect ratio for my beast. Life is good...

Looking forward to returning to Inline Perf to have the injection pump rebuilt and a set of injectors installed and finally getting around to a 4" exhaust in early '11 hopefully.
