I've been spending more time on the truck lately, the weather has been perfect until today's light rain. Plenty of shade and a fan, I'm having a blast.

Finished drilling the frame today, all the 4x4 parts are installed. The front crossmember, front springhangers and support bracket already had the holes drilled in the frame. When I bolted the engine saddle to the Cummins mounts and dropped it into place the frame popped and all the bolt holes lined up perfectly in the front crossmember(Dodge Magic).

The engine saddle was a bit of a pain to drill, I used a 90* air tool to get in there without pulling the engine. Burned up three 7/16 bits on the engine saddle and rear spring mounts, two 1/2 bits for the shock mounts, a 9/16 drill bit for the steering bracket and two 1 5/8 hole saws for the rear spring shackle. I used Grade 9 bolts in the engine saddle and rear spring mounts but had to use grade 8 to finish off the front assembly due to limited availability.

The 4WD steering box uses a bracket that my 2WD didn't, requiring three 9/16 holes drilled in the frame to mount(Dodge drilled 2 of them at the factory so I only had to make them bigger). The steering box itself seems to be the same so I saved $200, I just replaced it last year anyway. A Borgeson shaft will finish it off nicely...

So far the biggest PITA was changing the bushings in the rear spring hangers. I had the luxury of pressing them out with the big hydraulic press, I'd hate to try to change them under the truck. Hopefully tomorrow I'll press new bushings in the springs and have the front axle mounted...

are you buying all the hardware new (i.e. brackets for springs, sway bars, etc.), fabbing it yourself or sourcing it from junk yards?

I bought a donor 4x4 truck for all the parts. I did find the left front spring hanger thru a stealership, the used one was completely worn out. Sway bar was missing and I haven't found one yet.

Finally got the leaf springs in, new bushings made it real easy. Spent alot of time pressure washing and painting all the parts.

Rolled the axle in at lunch, waiting for shocks and the Borgeson shaft to arrive shortly.

It's still supported by the lift in this pic, 33's look much better than the skinny street tires.

Spayed some paint while it's apart. Had the battery tray and fender wells covered with a spray bedliner material.

No more rattle can paint under the hood.

I finally got her back on the road after 2 1/2 months. I'm too busy to paint the truck now, I'll try this winter when business slows down.

The suspension swap has actually made the ride much smoother, apparently the 2wd had about an inch of travel due to the weight of the CTD which made minor bumps feel like major potholes. The only bug I have yet to figure out is why the parking brake light and ABS light won't turn off but eventually I'll figure out what the problem is. I can't say enough about the Borgeson shaft, really makes the steering feel like a new truck. I think the turning radius has improved a tiny bit as well. The front of the truck got 8 inches of lift overall and the rear got the 3" block added. I still have 2 more leaves to add to the rear, the pins broke on the donor truck and I didn't have time to make new ones so I just added the block. The front is a 1/4 inch higher than the rear for now but those 2 leaves will add another 1 1/2 when i get around to it. I wouldn't recommend a CTD swap into a crew cab without the proper front suspension swap to go with it, just my 2 cents after the fact...

This is the reason why the swap had to be done. I added the lift last summer and lost alot of room above the rear axle. You can see the e-brake cable was slowly getting chopped between the axle and scissors.

Problem solved, I still have an 1 1/2" of lift to add soon. I really wanted to upgrade the exhaust but 6 bills for the 4" kit was a little too much considering what I spent so far...
