Default mega-cab long bed = dodge 4500/5500???

I'm not trying to get everyone all riled up, just throwing this out there for people to chew on. I keep hearing all the complaints about the mega-cab only being short bed, and people wanting a 4500/5500 series truck. Perhaps Dodge has an opportunity here to develop a new heavier duty, longer frame, combining the mega-cab with a long bed and higher gvwr/gcvwr. Hopefully they are thinking along the same lines I am, and are already planning this. Seems to me that this situation would provide a truck for nearly everyone's needs. Again, I don't have any inside info or anything, just saying that Dodge may have a golden opportunity to get into the medium duty market.

I happen to agree with your thoughts. If Dodge would have listened years ago and made the 2500/3500 Real size 4 door instead of starting with the small trucks and then to the 1500's, they would have had 10 times the trucks outthere in lieu of all those Ford Powerchokes they have to deal with now. Will they ever or do they listen to us? So far NOT.

I agree with you guys, however I have seen (just recently in a local auto-trade mag.) a 2nd. Gen with 4 real full-size doors. The first time was before the 3rd. gens came out and it had a CTD. The latest in the mag was a V-10 both 2500's.
I think they may have been brought in to the U.S. from other countries maybe Mexico??? I also have seen a 2nd. Gen style Ramcharger 2-door about 6 yrs. ago. I asked the owner (waited in the parking lot, no I'm not a stalker ) he said he brought it back from Mexico with no motor and transplanted a new crate motor and then had it approved for all applicable laws.
If we had access to all of DC's worldwide vechicles it would be great, but it will never happen because of regulations.

Yeah, we've talked about this many times. It's a drum that LOVES to be beaten

Dodge has not confirmed the building of a 4500/5500 officially, but it sure looks like we'll see a launch for MY2007.

There are NO photos as of yet, and I wouldn't get your hopes up about a MegaCab 4500. First run will likely be a limited offering, but you never know.

Engine/Tranny choices are also unknown...it's a 50-50 split between MB and Cummins. Serious hints have been given on TDR, but I'm not taking any of the postings as gospel. Rumour Control has it pegged as an automotive version of the 6.7L, we'll just have to see.

(My personal guess is that we'll have 2 diesel engine choices and one gasser choice, along with a MB tranny option. And don't be shocked if these trucks end up bigger than the current 3500 trucks...I will also predict they're NOT going to just be a 3500 body...I think they'll be larger than what we're used to. Just my guesses, but y'all can hold me later to my prediction I said it here, and today )

I think 19.5 tires would be a minimum option.

One thing I CAN tell you is that DC had better be using a whole new frame platform, and one that isn't this hydroformed crap. You can't easily modify the 3500 frame, and body mounting is not fun. Almost no shops will lengthen the frame. Commercial users by their nature modify their trucks as required. I pray DC goes with a strong and flat C channel back frame, and doesn't try to pass off a Mickey Mouse adaptation of the current 3500 frame. Commercial users won't stand for it (not talking about RV haulers, I mean people who buy a cab/chassis and then add equipment).

As a commercial user, I've been eagerly awaiting this arrival...but after years of complete BS rumours, I'm resigned to waiting till I see one on a lot. Then we'll know for sure what it's got, and if it's worth it's salt.

I live down here on the border and I have seen a dodge that had a flatbed a rear axle that was farther back (denoting cab and chassis) and was badged 4500 on the doors. It was the new body style. There are also quite a few ramchargers around here with mexican plates.

A Ram 4000 is sold in Mexico, but only with a Hemi. It's not the precursor to the rumoured 4500/5500 series...kind of a hybrid test. It's on Dodge Mexico's website, but my Spanish is non-existant

For what is worth (probably nothing), by stealer told me that Mercedes Benz has given Cummins notice that MB diesels will be going in the Dodge trucks very soon. I would guess the Liberty diesel and the sprinter vans are the hints along those lines.

I can see it now...memo saying "MB engines to be used in truck division" becomes "MB replacing Cummins" since salespeople equate truck to be a RAM, overlooking the M2 Business class or something silly like that.

Wait and see

Actually from what I've read in a recent magazine is that the new 2.8 liter in the liberty has nothing to do with MB or cummins. I read it was built in itialy by a company that was owned by detroit desiel which is owned by diamler crysler? I forgot the name of the Itialian company but can scroung up the magazine and quote it if anyone would like. In all the reading I did about that liberty engine I never found who made it, they only describe a common rail desiel, unlike the sprinter van that had MB badging all over its magazine articals or the cummins being all over the rams, which I found to be very odd.

The Liberty engine is indeed made by a DC owned company in Italy. And so far, the feedback has been positive on it.

Well, take the following with a grain of salt please...there's nothing really new here, and I still maintain we'll know when the sales brochures come out.

A TDR member is professing to "have the inside scoop" on the upcoming 07 5500 models. Thing is, he's only made 58 posts in total, so I'm not certain of his info reliability. As I've said before...I'm a hopeful skeptic.

I don't think y'all can view the link unless you are a TDR member, but here's the meat of it:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> From TDR Originally posted by cwcox 08-08-2005 ]http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...highlight=5500

Definitely 13,500 to 19,500 gvw, wheels are 19.5, and the cab and front end is all Dodge. Front clip is modified somewhat to accomodate the larger wheel/tire combo, as well to accept Dodge/Sterling grilles and badging. Profile/height appears to be similar to the F550.

...Corporate is saying that the power will be all Cummins! No interest in using the MB. I find that one hard to believe, especially in the Sterling version. No word on what size Cummins.
</div></div>

Well. No groundbreaking inside scoop info there. Kinda like going to see a psychic fortune teller "I see you aging (really). And living for years to come (uh-huh). And...and...oh my...an illness will befall you, but you will survive (the flu ). And...you will suffer a tragedy in later years, but persevere and come out of it a stronger person (like nobody in this world doesn't have "tragedy's")

Sorry guys. It's late, I'm tired, and I get a little cynical at times
