Default Luk Gold Pro Clutch Going In

Went to go to work this morning, and the clutch still was not fully disengaging.

So, instead of getting the chance to learn something and doing the job myself, I've gotta pay a shop to do it. Ah well, it'd probably take me 3 days just to figure out how the Tranny and T-Case come off

A recommendation was made for a Luk Gold Pro Clutch. The funny thing was how HARD it was for anyone to get me torque specs. Eventually got them (700ft/lbs is what I'm hearing...does that sound about right?).

I asked one shop what they recommended...they said Luk Gold.
"Great! What's the benefit?"
"I dunno what the difference is between a Luk and a Luk Gold Pro, it's just better"

Wow...that fills me with confidence.

Will let you know how it turns out! Thanks to all who "advised" on the clutch issues.

If you are upgrading the engine in the future, make sure the Luk Pro is at least as good or better than the stock 675 ft-lb clutch. With simple mods you will slip your new one just as easy..

The stock clutch is rated for 675? And the "gold" is rated for only 25 ft/lbs more than stock??? Luk's website did NOT list torque capacities...odd...

One of the criteria I had for this replacement was to get a clutch that could take some upgrades (I'll probably never go over 300HP). I read alot about Southbend, but I cannot afford any more downtime; we need a clutch right now.

The tranny shop (Quality Trans in Calgary) told me the Luk Gold had "30% more torque capacity than stock".

Stock what? Stock V6 clutch? Makes me wonder what I'm paying for. Hard as hell to pin these guys down for any longer than 20 seconds...phones just keep ringing off the hook there.

I really dislike being in a position where I need to make snap decisions about a new part without having the time to fully research things. Oh well...we'll see what comes up (or blows up LOL!)

Man, I think I could have sourced a Southbend to be here from BC in about a day.. PDR carries them pretty much stock I think, or at least I could rattled the cage at Wildcat...

The irony is I used to live about 15 minutes from PDR (before I moved here and got a CTD). And we just sold our place in Langley last week after 4 years of living here...

Ah well, Alberta rocks, what else need I say?

Clutch is in...whatta difference! Guess one gets used to a "hard pedal" after awhile...I'm constantly slamming the clutch pedal down because it moves so much easier now!

Oh...tranny mount was also replaced. A $40.00 charge for the part, not bad!

All told, these guys were bang-on their quote of $1100.00 (plus $40.00) for the Luk Pro Gold clutch and bearings.

So far, so good!

I just did mine with a Gold Pro. Looks like a decent piece. Pedal is way different. I never liked the sprung disks. Does that cause the truck to lurch? The springs compressing and extending...??
