Sounds like your going to need a VP-44. The 1688 is an internal controller failure, and the 1689 is a no communication between the VP & ECM. 90% of the time, that code winds up being a VP also. I would also check the L/P pressure, if it's low, that needs replacing also.

I apreciate the input I have been looking on line and not getting anywhere fast, are there any aftermarket injector pumps out there or any place reasonable that I can get one on line and are they difficult to replace. Thanks

These 2 places have decent pricing <a href="http://www.cumminsstuff.com" target="_blank">http://www.cumminsstuff.com</a> or <a href="http://www.se-power.com" target="_blank">http://www.se-power.com</a>

They're not hard to replace, there's a link to R&R instructions.

Just replaced mine a couple weeks ago. The Cummins dealer was the cheapest at $1250 for a remanufactured pump, but I wound up buying a new pump from Piers Diesel for $1450.

Ya, my wifes 2500 read those same exact codes and I pulled the lift pump discharge line off and the pump was spinning, but nothin' was coming out. I replaced that but it was too late, it had already took out the VP-44. I found a company in TX that would sell me one for $975.00, so then I called a couple of local dealer's down in Sacramento and found a guy who matched the price. Replaced the pump cleared the codes and no problems since. Still need guages though, I know the humanity of it all, there coming...............
