Default Front End Vibration....

...96 2500 2WD: had transmission rebuild and new heavy duty torque converter; all u-joints were replaced at that time; new tires on front end 3 months ago- everything was fine on our trip from home in Yuma, Az. up to casinos in Laughlin, Nevada last month. Yesterday just after leaving home for a few days in Vegas, I was noticing what came to be a steady vibration- felt almost like a flat spot on a tire; Tires are new and new weights from spin balance; popped tires off- calipers and pads are good; there was a pot on one tire which looked like maybe there had been a balancing weight at one time, but likely from the previous tire balance; but I removed that tire and put the spare on; vibration is still there and persistent. I'm hoping to travel to Laughlin- Bullhead City Wednesday an find a front end shop to put it up on a rack and try and find the cause; I'm feeling it steady at the steering wheel and in seat area. I'm open to ideas if anyone has any....... Thanks........... Stuck in Vegas- could be worse I guess.....

Being that a lot was done I would reinspect all ofthe work preformed. And look closely.

You said that all ujoints were replaced but what about the carrier bearing?

...there was nothing pertaining to carrier bearing listed among all the things on the work order; I'm about 130 miles from Vegas to Bullhead City, Az- any harm or danger in driving it that far? I don't want to be tearing something up along the way and have to worry about truck and travel trailer being towed back to Vegas; feeling the vibration, but no noise(that I can hear)associated with it......

...never been changed- right at 250,000; guess I'll be searching through the Vegas/Henderson phone book for front end or driveline shop; just have heard a lot of horror stories of 'non-locals' getting taken to the cleaners by less than scrupulous shops here........ guess I need to have the front end and driveline examined.....................

Mine was just about toast as well at 250k. I would also take a close look at the axle joints as well.

Send Kbbt a private message as he lives in the Las Vegas area. He may be able to give you some direction to a shop.

Went to Auto, Air and More at 4295 W. Tropicana (just a few blocks W. of the I-15 underpass; after I described the vibration, he said it sounds like a tire; got down and found a bulge at inside right rear tire- said the tread is beginning to separate; I went to Sam's Club and had 2 new tires installed- no more vibration- everything is nice and smooth.......problem solved......................

Well that would do it for sure. How old are the rear tires?
