Options for replacing 4.10 on a DRW?
Hey guys, I found a link online that allowed me to get a complete list of everything installed on my truck from the factory from Chrysler/Dodge. I found the stamped plate under the cowl (on the 92, attached to the firewall on my 93) but couldn't find a decoder on line so this was really nice. I confirmed my truck has the 4.10 rear end and I'd like to swap that to a 3.54. Have you guys done this before? I've heard there is a second gen axle commonly available that will work versus trying to change the gearset. The internet is full of opinions, I was wondering if anyone here had done this and could provide some facts. thanks!

I have the 3.54, and while its great for hi-way driving, it sucks for towing.

Thanks for the reply. I won't be towing anything so I'm fine with that. My old 92 D250 5 speed had that 3.54 (I assume) and it did everything I wanted it to do.

Never had issues towing with my 3.54s. Shoot, I could drive around 60-65mph all day with overdrive turned off if need be.

I live in the mountains tho, lots of long steep hills and I feel its a strain on the truck towing the skidsteer, example, snow plow 600 lbs, truck, 5700 lbs, flatdeck 3000 lbs, skidsteer 6600lbs, diesel fuel 560lbs, total =16,460 lbs. Its an auto too.
