Default short arm vs. long arm

what is the difference between the two? how does it affect the vehicle?

Depending on the size and amount of lift the longer arms correct the suspension geometry so the angles of the traling arms aren;t so extreme.

I personally feel that long arms provide a better ride. My old 95 had a tuffcountry 5'' with the short arms and dual front shocks and it rode rough has hell. My 02 diesel with the 5.5'' fabtech with long arms and dual shocks rides much better than stock,and a hundred times better than the old 95 v10. Plus from what I have read long arms allow more suspension travel than short arms.

Yes. And basically long is better, but more expensive and more work to install.
