I don't have a good history with hall effect sensors, I think I'll stick to old school. You mentioned "Once, while I had the assembly dismounted, it seemed to work properly just using my thumb to move the throttle, but it screwed up again after I remounted it". You could have a harness problem at or near the APPS. Works until you move it.

The only thing with Hall Effect I drive is the 1992 Olds Bravada, with the original hall effect ignition sensor.
What system does the stock factory OEM APPS use?

So, after trying a third (real live dodge) TPS and bypassing the harness to the ECM, it looks like the ECM actually is failing...

Anyone have a used one lying around?

I don't.
Are ECM's rebuildable?

Are you positive it's not the VP44 gone bad? Sounds like when mine was acting up. Total dead pedal out of the blue. Shut off and turn key to run. Let everything complete the boot cycle before I would start it, and boom! All would be fine. For varying amounts of time. LOL

Apparently, they can be rebuilt. None of the ones I can find seem to have my part number though. That is 53040317AC. This thing doesn't seem to exist anywhere.

When my VP died, it was pretty clear that the timing was out. I was fogging whole neighbourhoods. Now, the only thing that seems to be wrong is the throttle doesn't work properly, hesitating and cutting out with occasional completely dead pedal. I'm getting the low voltage code for the TPS (P0122, I typoed P0121 before) and no other codes. The longest I was able to drive after the whole reset thing was less than a block.

I put one of these on my truck because the original seemed to have a dead spot in it. Not a problem since.
