fuel additives
Today I did another injector job. What I pulled out was pretty bad at any standard...if I didn't believe in some sort of fuel conditioner (whether it be amsoil, a special blend, power service...etc), I do now. Over half of the nozzles were clogged and all coked up. These injectors should have lasted a lot longer.
Well, he has new ones now..

Gees...wonder what my injectors look like
I know what my fuel does to fuel connections and filter canisters, and filler necks if any is spilled or leaked.
The exhaust manifold didn't have any buildup though,
and the cylinders should burn cleaner than the manifold I would think....

Pop an injector out, not hard to do. For some reason I have been doing more lately than I would like. I should charge for doing this stuff...LOL.
I was shocked to say the least. I will get some pics up later.

I do like to add a bit of ps and oil (be it 2 cycle or non deter) at fill ups. Heck the conditioner sure can't hurt and I for sure can tell a difference in the exhaust smell with and without the oil. Without oil the exhaust smells very dry, almost crusty like. With oil smells like it used to 10 years ago. Maybe not burning as clean as greenpeace would like. Maybe it's just all in my head but seems like the smell is different

I've heard lots of pro's and con's on a list of additives. Except for the 2 stroke, I gave up on all that stuff. I do nothing different when using additives and when not, and nothing seems to be different. She runs great, and no, I haven't had any need to pull an injector to look see.
Like in my old trucks, once I start using additives, I start when new and never stop. This one, heck, it seems like a total waste. If the fuel is right, we drive and maintain her right, I really wonder is really worth it ?

Personally I'm a big believer of using fuel additives for gas and Diesel. With the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel (ULSD), bringing the sulfur content to 15 ppm, a staggering drop from the current requirement of 500 ppm. Lower sulfur means lower lubricity, the property that controls wear in the fuel injectors and fuel pump.

I agree, with the low sulfur count problem, but the 2 stroke oil I use covers that. I question also using other additives. How much do you really need ?
My friend uses the 2 stroke oil only and has 1.3 million on this rig without any issues. Granted it's a Big Rig, but still a Cummins engine. He does proper maintenance when it's due, only.
Seeing that, is more additives just another cost ?
How much is really needed ?
Where is the point that there is to much and causes issues ?

Yes I also used 2 stroke oil in my 2002 with excellent results.
