Too nice to part out, he keeps everything in tip top shape so.....tip top money is what he wants for it....around here 4X4 isn't really required so....the Posi rear axle it does have handles the slick stuff just fine. Still trying to get him to join, DR is a wonderful resource for the owners of the Cummins/Dodge trucks!

Had my brakes inspected yesterday. They where as bad as I figured. Considering the truck has nearly 200K miles on it now and is almost 25 years old, it's time. Pretty much new everything except the master cylinder. New pads and shoes, new rotors and drums, new brake hoses, wheel bearing pack and reals, and a fluid flush. $2200 Then add the suspension work for another $1200. $3600 into the transmission swap so far and it's not even in yet. $7,000 so far. I figure another $300-400 to finish hooking it up once it is set in place. No idea the price tag on that part yet.

That sure is a lot of money for a brake job.

Nothing is cheap up here anymore, that is why we are moving out next spring. I found the receipt from the last brake job on this truck and it was half that 5 years ago.

I did mine last year, rotors, $47.each, drums $40.each, shoes $18. a set, pads $18.a set, wheel cylinders $20.each, seals $7. Each , complete hardware set$12. A set. Not worth machining rotors or drums anymore, costs just as much as new almost. I should have put bigger wheel cyls on tho, I put 7/8 on, as thats what their book showed, I found out it had 1" on, but should of went with the 1 ton 1 1/8. I can sure feel the diff between the 1" and the 7/8, rear brakes feel weak now. Ill change them next year to the 1 ton cyls. Kind of a pain pulling the axles to take the drum off.

This last brake job lasted 55K miles and was done 7 years ago. Doesn't seem like they lasted very long. The rears being the worst.

Mine seem to last a long time because I only do highway driving, and I only insure it between Nov-Mar for plowing purposes. Im still going to change out the wheel cyls next year to the larger ones.

I'm looking for another rear end, mine is making too much noise. Estimate of $1300 min to rebuild mine. There is one 3hrs away the guy says it has 123K miles on it. I asked him to take pictures of the inside before I waste the fuel to go out there.
