Default What's this thing do..

Do all Ram trucks have this thing on the line to the brake hydro booster?
What exactly is it and what does it do??
I always thought it was a magnet somebody added aftermarket to catch metal shavings or something, but my 07 and 09 both have one.

Alot of times I see things like that on wiring harnesses to keep them from chaffing or rubbing against something.

This is fun. Take it off and find out. Report back.

Took me awhile to figure it out. But I figure show and tell is easier.

I do believe they are a magnetic filter for the power steering fluid, i had to replace the line and my new one had it on it and my old one didn't. Or maybe it just aligns the magnetic chokras up in the fluid for better performance.

Ok, it seems.... If you take it off the power steering pump starts howling in about a week.
Thought I'd done messed up for sure.
I actually didn't put 2 and 2 together for a couple weeks
I removed it when I was trying to get some lines secured so they wouldn't put pressure against the fuel filter housing because it was leaking. (the filter housing).
Then the pump started howling. The fluid was black, and flushing and refilling with Lucas helped only slightly.
I had sorta planned to change the pump over Christmas but just didn't.
Everything was still working fine, it just moaned a LOT!
Then, last week, while researching new pumps, I saw where they recommended a filter with the new one and thought about this thing.
Couldn't find where I'd put it, searched and searched. Finally came across it Friday and stuck it back on the hose.
The whining pump has quieted Significantly. Not sure if it's completely, but I don't notice anymore and didn't check from outside the truck yet.
I also thought, nothing was stuck to it in my tool bag where I finally found it so if it is a magnet it's not a very strong one.
Haven't stuck a wrench to it yet to see.
Could it be just a 'muffler' of sorts that absorbs vibration in the line to prevent the whining??
