Default Radiator hose

How long should they last? Iím considering just changing them all as they are the originals! They show no wear or fatigue. They will be 17 years old this Oct. This truck is always garaged, Lupus can attest, itís hotter than HELL in our neck of the woods in summer and starting to worry about them. The laughable part is, the truck only has 78K miles, but still over 16 years old! Donít wanna be towing to the Coast in our heat over Buckhorn summit and blow hoses, this truck feels that pull over Buckhorn. That summit blows all temps out the water!! Now itís hwy 199W out of Oregon.

I just changed out both of mine this past summer for the same reason, age. They both seemed fine, the bottom one had a bit of checking/flaking on the bottom side is the only flaw i could see.I also changed the coolant as i couldn't remember ever doing it.

I think a key step is distilled water and always use the recommended antifreeze mixed 50/50. Makes a difference.

Yes , definitely distilled or reverse osmosis water is key, no minerals in them to clog things up.

The premixed 50/50 mix is the way to go, its easy and it is made with distilled water. I remember squeezing the rad hoses on my 91, they felt like I was crushing a bag of potato chips, they must've been original. The insides were so rotten, it was a matter of days before one of them blew im sure.

350000 on the original hoses on my 01. Original radiator split the tank though. Go figure.
