Default One Wire Alternators

Anyone have any experience with them? I'm leaning this way because my 1st gen has a never-ending charging issue in one form or another and frankly, I'm tired of it. Fix one issue, it moves somewhere else. Any recommendations? Any issues?

Ordered one from Hagemeister Enterprises Inc in Oregon. It is a direct replacement so no bracket mods. All I need to do is hook up the battery terminal and abandon the field wires. I'll let you know how it works out.

Cougar I started to suggest that very thing the other day when you said something about charging issues..

I've seen many and installed a couple. You are correct, one wire to/from battery and I just works.
We've put a few on tractors over the years since anything for a tractor is 3 prices!
They were originally a gm product.
I've walked into the local parts store and told them I wanted a one wire alternator and they just pull one off the shelf no problem.
(That's a real parts store, not your local chain type oil change supplier)

It's at the post office. I'll pick it up later this morning. I'll see how far I get before getting rained out.

Installed. First impression? Not good. It's not working. Didn't have time to do any troubleshooting due to Catus interruptus. I suspect it doesn't like my battery isolator. Easy enough to bypass. Overall, not bad. One thing it needs is grounding studs on the case like the OEM alternators. I made sure I had clean metal and coated with copper anti seize for a good contact.

My suspicion was correct. After disconnecting the battery isolator, the alternator came to life. Now I will have to find a solution for that.

About the only other thing I can add is you will need to reposition your transmission cooler line slightly. The regulator hanging off the back of that thing is huge.
