Default Preditor/varment rifles

I'm looking into long range critter rifles and just looking for some input. In the past I've used 22LR, 22 Hornet, .223 Rem, and a 300 Win Mag with a 150gr hollow point. I was thinking something in the range of .223/5.6 to .264/6.5. I've red a few articles, but they where all old so I'm not considering their information up to date. The 6.5 Creedmoor has my curiosity, an oddball that seem to be effective out to 1,000 yards. Then the more traditional's like 22-250, .243, 25-06, .260.

I use to shoot in 1,000 yard competitions, so having that range capability would be a plus. There are a few cartridges in that diameter range that will do it. How often? Probably not enough to shoot out the barrel if that is what your thinking.

.223 wont do 1,000 yards. A .308 maybe but thats even pushing that. For how often I was thinking more on a price point. The 6.5 family is a nice way to go.

Years ago, I used to shoot a National Match M-1 Garand in .308 for NRA High Power matches, including Palma (800, 900, 1000 yard) matches and did quite well with it. We used 168 gr out to 600 yards, then switched up to 178 gr ammo for longer distances.

Well, finally got round to it. Wanted a 264 Winchester, but the only one around had a shot out bore. Looked at a few 243's, even some 270's. After doing more research, the 6.5 Creedmoor didn't overly impress me. Ran across a 25-06 and started researching into it. Not my 1st choice, but a good second. Found a Sako Long Range in 25-06. The guy bought it new and never got the chance to shoot it. He sold it cheap because he was shipping out and couldn't take it with him. I bought a 4-18X40mm scope for it. Now I need to take it to the range.
