Default New Truck

I have a 2005 3500 DWR ,auto 4x4. 179,000 miles. I am having a lot of repair issues with it. Trany lines, exhaust manifold, death wobble[ I put a Luke's link on 100,000 miles ago], now over heating. I pull a 15,000 - 20,000 combined truck and trailer twice a month.
I am looking at a 3500 or 4500,2014 or 2015 left over at a dealership.
Is this the way to go?
Do the newer trucks have the death wobble problem?
I understand that the new trucks have an exhust brake/ turbo.
Is the new 3500 a better truck than my 2005?
Should I go to a 4500?
I would like a hook lift, does any one have experience with them?
Thanks

Check out the towing capacity chart on-line. The 4500 has a lower max towing capacity than the 3500 by almost 6K lbs. The cargo capacity is huge on the 5500, but the 4500 is not much better than the 3500.

Edit: I got a 14 leftover 3500 DRW this past April. Love it, rides good, handles good, tows like a locomotive, love the Aisin tranny, Love the Ex brake, love the factory trailer brake controller

How is everyone affording these new trucks? I looked at a new F-150 the other day. $53,000. They'll offer me...maybe $18k for my '06 that has much more capability.

I suspect a new Ram 3500 would be priced somewhere in high orbit.

New truck prices seem to have outpaced income increases in recent years, and I'm thinking I'll have to keep my '06 "forever" or sell it, never again to have a heavy duty pickup in my stable.

Prices are outrageous. I've seen stickers at $74K. There is a dealer here in Lancaster that periodically discounts them by $11K to $12K. They give a decent trade too since the used ones hold value. That being said, I still went for a 2014 leftover in April of this year, a Tradesman model that had some necessary options to make it comfortable and usable. I got beyond top dollar for my 08 trade. Interest rates are also very low now and 0% is sometimes available. I could never afford one of those fancy models for sure, but my Tradesman does just fine and was quite comfortable on our travels this past Summer. I'm not poopooing the fancy ones, don't get me wrong, If I had another $20K laying around I would have a fancy one, but I just couldn't do it

OK, felt the same way about my 14 when looking. 56K. Had an 07 5.9 with only 70K miles. When all was said and done walked out with the 14 for 24K difference. Love the many new features and the fuel millage is very good. 24 or so on the highway. Def is about 2.5 gallons per 5000 miles at a cost of $10 or so. When they said they would give me 30K for my trade in I was shocked. Only paid 36 when new so cost me about 6K for 7 years of driving and it badly needed tires as they were still the originals. Now service is a bit more costly for the 14 as just the EGR cleaning is about $500 or more at the dealer at 65K miles. That is disturbing but you can DIY for quite a bit less. Geno's garage has the kit. Overall I do not regret trade.

I went ahead and bought a new 2015 Tradesman. Very happy with it.

I'm keeping my '91 too, but the '12 Is great for long range rv towing. It's paid for, but the 401k keeps getting smaller and retirement is farther away.
