Gauge installation
Anyone have a walk through on how to install EGT, boost and trans temp in an '05 CTD? Looking for info on best place to run wires through firewall, what wire to use for the gauge lighting, and where to put the trans temp sending unit. I think I'm going to do a 3 gauge pillar, so aim towards that with the info. Thanks.

We had the same similar trucks (04.5). I removed on of the plugs in the firewall, cut a hole in the rubber plug and fished the wires into the cab from there.
Gauge lighting is easy. Remove the light selector switch cover, pull switch out with wires, splice the orange/brown wire if I remember correctly (it has been 4 years, use a test light to make sure). If you decide to go with a rail pressure gauge (highly recommended), you will have to hook up to a different power source.
The trans temp sending unit has a few different options. Tim Holt has stated that getting an inline sending unit location is more accurate (on from MASS diesel for example). I put mine in the trans pan. You can do this a few different ways. Go to your local parts store and get a bulkhead drain plug (10.00) and install it in your factory pan. I did this first and then got a double deep MHT trans pan which has locations for temp probes.

How do you remove the light cover?

I believe it just pops off. I am assuming you removed the plastic piece under the steering wheel...there may be a screw in there. I am 95% sure it just pops off.

I haven't touched it yet, just getting an idea. Need to order a pillar and trans gauge before I start doing anything.

If your truck is an auto. There is a plastic plate on the fire wall where the cluck linkage would go. This is where I've run wires and air lines.

The whole dash pretty much just pops off. The headlights and dimmer switch panel just pops off, grab by the steering column and pull out, not too much force required. I used the dimmer switch for power to lights on gauge. It is orange/white on the 03, but i know it is a different color on the 04 and 05's. I t-tapped into the cigarette lighter wires for gauge power(different that power to lights) because it is a power source only powered when key is on. The dash panel containing the radio/AC control and everything just pops off. Grab by the trash bag holder and pull, just a few clips holding it on, easy access to cigarette lighter wires, one for hot and one for ground, easy to route under dash and up A-pillar. I used a combo EGT/Boost gauge and SRT-10 mount so not quite the same, but similar concept i would think. I used a bolt in the A-pillar for ground for gauge lights. Hope this helps.
