Default non CJ4

My local auto parts store all he has is CJ4 oil, he says thats all they ship him, im back in a diesel now and was wondering what the best non synthetic oil and not CJ4 is and where I can buy it the reason I do not want synthetic is the fact that my truck is a 96 and has 179,000 miles, I believe that synthetic would clean it out to much at this age.

This is all I've ever used. You can get it at Walmart cheap.

I looked at the ink and its says that it is compatible or can be used in engines with DPF filters, I remember back when all this DPF garbage came out 5 years ago you had to specifically buy CJ4 oil ( I used to have a 08) I deleted all my emissions stuff and switched to regular oil as the word on the street was that the CJ4 oil breaks down faster,, so my question is, Is all oil these days CJ4???

If the CJ4 is the newest standard, then most probably is. Most of the time it's backwards compatable with older engines.

Herb would know for sure.

Jimmy,
I switched my '97 and my '98 over to synthetic from Rotella which i used for 20 years and didn't have any issues with leaking or consumption. I put my '02 and now my 98.5 on a semi synthetic and haven't had any issues either. i would put in what you would prefer to use and forget it. And about all the straight oils are CJ4 now.

You would have zero issues with switching to synthetic oil in your truck. My '96 had 325,000 km's (201,000mi) when i switched to synthetic, sold it at 467,000km still running strong!

Most off the shelf Diesel oils that are going to be found are going to be the CJ-4 low ash oil's, which are backward compatable. Going full Syn you should have no problems, I have lots of customer changing over with higher mileage with no issues.

AMSOIL has the AME 15w-40 CI-4+ which is one of their strongest sellers, and their CJ-4 oils for the newer Diesels.

Once I get around to changing my oil then send in the oil to be tested I'll get first hand info on how well Amsoil 5w40 CJ4 oil holds up in my 06.

Using a synthetic will clean you engine over time helping remove sludge and varnish build up. The AMSOIL (AME) 15w-40 is NOT a CJ-4 low ash oil.
