Default Dyno'd the '98

I had the ’98 that is in the signature Dyno’d yesterday.
I am not real pleased with the numbers and I am not sure if it is the truck or the dyno operator.
We put the truck on the dyno and did two runs. Both times the truck was run with the tranny in Overdrive and the converter NOT locked up.
Will this way get the best results?

Run one with the Methanol injection system “OFF”
257.5 HP; 575 ft. lb. @ 2375 rpm

and the second run with the Methanol injection system “ON”.
277.5 HP; 650 ft. lb. @ 1980 rpm

I am less than pleased with these numbers given it has a #5 plate, 300 rpm governor spring kit, S300 non-gated turbo and Sno-Performance Methanol kit.
I was looking for numbers around 300 HP.
However the Methanol Kit did make a difference.

Was this the correct way to Dyno the truck?

I will post the readout graphs when I receive them.

John

When mine was dyno'd twice it was in O/D and locked up both times. If so, were my numbers lower than what they really are or were they higher than what they are?

My clutch is engaged when I dyno. The converter should be locked imo regardless what kind of dyno used. The turbo(s) light better under a hard load.

I DO NOT KNOW....

BUT in my opinion, the TC SHOULD be locked, that eliminates the hydraulic loss in tc.

Running in O/D is just like multiplying the load from the machine.

My runs were always done with the TC locked and O/D off.

When I dyno'd on Bean's Mustang type dyno , it was in 5th/1:1 and they locked in the engine speed at 2000rpm to get the rpm and mph together.
It didn't smoke much and they got off the pedal when the exhaust temperature hit 1300F.

The DynoJet dyno near here is an inertia type dyno. Nail the pedal at 60mph and run it up to 3000rpm. Made good power on it but that was before the Comp unlock, studs and higher boost.

Inertia Dynos mean diddly to me.

Only true way to measure HP and Torq is on a load cell dyno at 28 to 32% load.

Now if you have a nv5600 then 5th gear will be 1 to 1. Nv 4500 will be 4th and autos have to be in drive OD locked out.

Then since mine was done twice on the same dyno in O/D how does that change the numbers? Are they higher than thought or lower?

Do you have one of these near you?
If so, when we visit and you work your magic, maybe we should give it a dyno run.
