Question Radio, anti theft

Anyone ever heard of typing a code into a used radio to get it to work?

GM had a theft code on some higher end audio head units a decade or so ago, stealer had master codes once ownership had been verified, and the bill paid, mostly the bill thing I think.

My 90 VW Jetta required the code when the radio lost power - like when you disconnected the battery. You had a precise a precise numbeer of chances to enter the code correctly to restore radio operation. No correct code; no radio - unless you paid for dealer help.

My wife's 2000 Acura was the same way. We bought the car used. I called the dealer after changing the battery to get the code, they said they needed the serial # off of the radio. Took me over two hours to get the radio out of the car. If someone wants the radio that bad, they can have it!
