I see a few working 2nd Gens.
Is trans heat an issue on all these? Do the converters not lock-up?
TIA

Clunk, the converter does lock...but anywhere below 40mph you're working off the fluid coupling, 30mph if the OD is off, and trying to get a 25,000# load moving isn't working very well at all.

Lower gears it just doesn't pull worth cr@p. Can barely get a load moving.
Stop on too much of a hill and it wont start off.
Got "stuck" Monday between 2 hills. Couldn't get over either...even after unloading the building.
The building dealer there is a local hardware store and they sent the delivery truck down to drag me outa there...

MAX, that confirms part of my theory...the heat coming from the converter.
I had thought high stall meant more stirring and more heat, but seems there's other issues too.

Guess I'm gonna ask the guy straight up..."How can you build...overbuild this transmission for $1000 ???"

I'm out of service till I get something done.....

25000lbs of a load ?????????????????

If so bud its time for a manual. You'll never get a auto to live at that load.

I always was told that you could burn the tranny fluid by just running it through an auxillary cooler without running it through the radiator first. Don't know if that is true though.

Are you sure its not trying to take off in second gear? Mine would try to do that before I changed the pressure sensor and shift solenoid. It would still take off on a steep hill with my 5th wheel though.

BLR...I considered that. Manually shifted it to first a couple times but no better.

MAX, 25,000.....Gross weight...not 'just' the load.
25K load on the engine and tranny I guess is what I was trying to say.
Not every trip or every day, but I bet it's rarely very far below 20,000.
Was gonna weigh it the other day at the wood yard but didn't get by in time.

Checking cooler flow Wednesday, took return line loose & dropped it in a jug. At idle in park...no fluid flow at all...none in 2 minutes time.
Drop it in drive and half a gallon in 30 seconds or so.
I was told by the local tranny shop that it wouldn't pump much in park, but I didn't think that meant NONE...??

Sorta looking around corners and under rocks for a 6.7, 6 speed, just seeing what I can find.

You need to be looking for a Freightliner M2 or similar.

That sounds nice...really does.
Drove one even...8.3L cummins, 6 speed Allison, walk in sleeper...

But that puts me in a different hauling class...has to be apportioned to cross state lines.
More paperwork, more expenses.
Course, trannies are expensive too.
Was told electronic logs are coming soon for anything above a dually...??

They are an awesome truck, Paul VT has 2 of them and they run everyday all day hauling roll off bins, one has 723,000 km's ( 448,00 mi) and still runs awesome. They have the mercedes engines and the 6 spd allison's, very little trouble with any part of the drivetrain.
