Default slip code 48re trans

My wife's 04.5 is in the dodge service dept. I just talked to them on the phone and they said a slip code for the trans. was displayed and they have it apart and say that they are replacing the torque converter and spring. This truck has 30,000 mi. and has only towed a two horse trailer with horses a few times. I'm looking for any insight as to what has happend?

If it in fact slipped, and you didn't bomb the hell out of it to make it slip, then I'd say that's one of the relatively rare 48re failures.

The truck is bone stock. my wife said that the truck seemed to have little power going uphill. She took it to the dealer before I got a chance to drive it. I asked her if the engine seemed to speed up and the truck did not and she it was bogging. I dont know about her response. But I am surprised to be having a problem becase this truck has not done much towing. The warranty is covering it, but I do not want to have more problems. Could she be driving it wrong? I assumed that auto trans was dummy prof. Any tips?

Nope and its a problem that happens with any of the RWD lockup transmissions, not just the 48RE. The VBs are basicly the same for the 42, 44, 46, 47 and 48RE/RH when it comes to the lockup hyd circuit. Sometimes the VB casting itself covers up the lockup switchvalve exhaust slot. Since the dealers arent allowed to do aftermarket style mods, DC puts out parts changes that do the same thing. Let them fix it, its not her driving.

so is it going to do the same thing again? Was it a fluke, who else has had the problem? By the way it is a 4wd.

My 04.5, has towed a 22 ft camper and an 18 foot pontoon boat a number of times into the mountains, over some tall steep passes, has almost 30,000 miles on her now and I've had no problems. I'd say it was a fluke get it fixed and wait and see.

Two of the biggest reasons I bought the auto.

1. Tired of rowing gears.

2. So the wife can drive it.

I got 31K around 10K 34 travel trailer and a 11K 5th Wheel, no problems. Wait I can't say that my power steering pump is on it's way out. Have my first appointment with the dealer since new.
