Default 3:42 rear axle vs 4:10

Been finding a few '17 3500 with the Alison. Most I have found have 3:42 gears. Looking at the towing charts, ram says about 10,000 lb difference in capacity. How much difference in empty running fuel mileage?

3:42 make maybe a 1 to 2 mpg difference empty. Towing probably no difference. The question is what are you going to do with the truck primarily? If it's towing and hauling 4:10 all day long. If just the occasional light towing and daily driving the 3:42. Also I noticed you said Alison. These transmissions in the ram are aisin transmissions. One of allisons competitors.

Our 2014 3500 DRW with Aisin and 3:42 gears gets 16mpg +/- a few tenths daily driving, sorry I can't help you with the 4:10s. The max trailer weight is rated 20,500lbs on mine. Towing our 16Klb. TH average is 10mpg +/- some change, I have seen 11 on flat road with no wind, and 8.8 in a head wind across South Dakota. The thing does haul like a locomotive pulling hills without a problem usually as fast as I want to go.

Going to look for a 3.73 gear when I upgrade, for what I'm going to do should be a good choice.
