I did not realize the cross section could even be removed. On my 03 and 06 the cross section was molded with the baffle, and there were not any other plastic pieces nor any foam. Interesting for sure and thanks for the post. I think I may take it out and put it inside a trash bag and throw it in the garage and see if there are any useful gains. I don't recall seeing anything in the manual about a maintenance schedule/check for the condition of the foam...I realize it is not a filter but I would think that at some point deterioration would come into play.

I remove it, will see if there's any advantage to having it. Only took about 10 mins. to remove.
Driving the '91 this week. maybe take the '12 on a road trip this weekend.

Just like removing a silencer ring in the older style turbo. Just makes more noise l.

I was juts thinking of the foam coming apart and sucking into the turbo.

It does need to be checked from time to time. Causes weird drivability isssues.
