Default ride quality 3/4 vs 1 ton

been looking for a new-to-me rig for a while now, difficult to find options I want with the G56 found a '16 3500 damn near like what I'm looking for (even though only in the market for a 2500) what is the ride comfort comparison unloaded/not hauling? any other major differences other than suspension?

thanks,
Streeter

my '12 3500 rides what I would consider smooth, although all I have to compare it with is my '91 2500 that rides like a lumber wagon. What all are you looking for in a truck?

I just bought a new 2018 1 ton 4X4. Ride is very smooth unloaded. Far smoother than my 04 2X4 before it met it's end. It has the factory air suspension. I don't know if it's an option or standard. But this new one is VERY smooth.

When I traded my 07 for the 14, both 2500s, the wife quickly commented on how much better the ride and comfort on the 14 was. The 5 link suspension over the leaf spring system even without the air lift is considerably better then the leafs for ride quality. If I get new one would seriously consider the air lift system which is optional.

IMO we can talk all day about trucks. When it boils down to brass tacks. The tires and shocks are what make the ride quality.

I always likes the ride with 5100 series Bilsteins.

I just installed Bilstein 4600 and they were about 1" shorter than the OEM shocks. Should I have ordered the 5100 instead? Will these be serviceable?

5100 are for 0 to 3” so if the truck has been leveled then yes you need a taller shock.

well crap ... one of these days I'll stop by with some libations about quitting time, after the tools are done flying in the shop and maybe we can talk about the future to-dos and improvements on this truck?
