Being unemployed has some advantages, I guess. As yesterday was a particularly beautiful sunny day, with just enough wind to keep the blood suckers at bay I went back to work on the 1st gen. Wired around a couple more issues and now everything ohms out as it should. Started it up and guess what, alternator was charging then flat line. WTH! Basically I went back through the wiring and connections and everything checked good. So it became throw parts at it time. Even though my alternator checked good I put my known good spare on it. No help. Even though the voltage regulator was new (only a few minutes of run time) I replaced it with a new spare. Guess what, I came back to life. Apparently the new made in china napa voltage regulator failed. The unfortunate part is the spare I replaced it with is also a made in china napa regulator. Once I get the harness bundled back together and anchored down I need to find a MADE IN AMERICA voltage regulator.

Coug, years ago I went to NAPA for a voltage regulator for my 91, he said they were discontinued, but found a dozen new ones in a box out back, he said they weren't in inventory, so if I gave him $50.00, I could have all of them. I thought its a good deal, but ill never use all of them, well when I sold the truck, I had 2 left, they went with the truck. I always carried 2 spares with me. The biggest reason I sold the 91 was all the electrical gremlins, and pliwing snow 100 miles from home, I needed something more reliable and powerful, and more room. My son saw it a few weeks ago, it now has a 8" lift and 2" body lift, 37"tires, and two 6" stacks. Its probably been sokd again, as a guy in his 40's bought it off me.

I ordered a Chrysler OEM on fleebay last night. I'll also be picking up an aftermarket one from Car Quest today. We'll see how they fair. In the mean time I've been looking through schematics for plans to build my own.

Went to move the 1st gen and the alternator flatlined on me again. I think that new NAPA voltage regulator died. I don't think it has 4 hours on it. At least it didn't go full tilt.

I was mistaken, it was a Car Quest regulator. And it was bad. Threw the last NAPA one I had laying around on there temporarily until I can move the connector to a more favorable location.
