Default Runs but will not take throttle or load.

It all started Nov. 2016, as stated in my previous thread.
Truck died, replaced VP44, lift pump, ECM and crankshaft sensor.
Engine starts, idle's, but will not take throttle quickly or any load.
If throttle is advanced slowly it will go to 28 or 2900 RPM then shut
down. If I put it in gear it will quit most of the time.
It was suggested I may have a crankshaft tone ring going bad.
It was suggested I check for pieces of it in the oil.
Does anyone know what the tone ring is made of ?
Got this information second hand from the shop where I got the VP44.

I can tell you you won't find anything unless you drop the oil pan and look in it. The oil drain plug register stands up in the pan about an inch. This is to keep the pick up from draining.

Only way to tell is to pull the starter then pull the crank sensor and first look at the sensor for damage then find a boroscope and bar the motor over and look at the time ring. The ring will have torxs bit screws holding it to the crankshaft.

Maxtorq, The sensor looks undamaged.
Captain. Check engine 2, 1689 & 1693.
Captain, would you share some light on the fix?

1689 code is No Communication between ECM and VP44

The crank sensor tone ring requires pulling the pan and replacing it, no small job, but I don't think thats your problem. The code you have would point more to the VP44, engine ECM, or wiring harness.

I would check the plug on the injector pump. Mine is a bear to get plugged in all the way. Especially if somebody had the injector pump out.

I have had the plug off and on many times and have found the
locking mechanism is hard to fully engage, but thought I had it on.
Will check the ECM plug also.
