Default power steering pump or gearbox?

OK so here's the deal about two years ago when the weather got cold my power steering got very stiff and sticky....and then it was fine. Again it got cold (32f) now its stiff and does not return. Now it's stiff like no power steering all the time except for a 10 min period 4 hrs into my freeway commute from work this week.

Brakes are fine, bought an Agr quick steer box in 2006"at the time my research said it was the best, now i guess you might as well replace it with a block of wood or something before an agr box." has 80,000 on the box and it always had the dss stabilizer.

I think its the pump finally taking a crap but looking into it ,and all the horror story's about the AGR box has stopped me from clicking "buy" on a new psc hi flow pump.

Any thoughts?

Is the air pump leaking any oil right where the power steerin pump is married to the air pump?

There is some minor oil sheen on and around the power/vac pumps but nothing too serious.

Chances are that the pump is worn out. Pumps from the parts stores are less than desireable these days.

Power steering has morning sickness. Flush the system and put some synthetic fluid back in.

Mine started crying a couple weeks ago.
Thought fluid was low, but no.
Worse when cold. Steers ok, maybe not quite as easy as before, but the pump just Friesland moans, especially when turning.
Replaced hydro booster last march.

OK now it seems that in the morning it steers fine but after the first start up it loses power steering , its like its got afternoon sickness.... any recommendations on a good synthetic fluid? And what's the best way to flush the system?

From what I gather you're not supposed to ever put tranny fluid in our PS pumps, right?
