So, what's the recommendations for a tranny that can take being worked to death?
I know mopar trannies are the weak link in a oil burnin' goat, but what fails and why?
I didn't realize till the first load how far behind I was power wise compared to other trucks I've driven.
This is gonna be SERIOUS work...for the truck!

Was thinking, I need to find a spare, have it built RIGHT and swap it one rainy day, or at least have it on standby...

In case y'all didn't know....the $50 fuel plates on ebay are "rough"...aparently machine cut and unpolished with grooves in the control surface.
After some light grinding, sanding & polishing to a mirror finish my #10 may be a 9.5...

Been thinking about adding a tranny cooler.
Can't remember, aren't the trans cooler lines low pressure?
In other words, will hoses and clamps work or do they need to be high pressure lines & fittings?

Transmission pan depth would be a start on additional cooling and is a portable mod http://www.genosgarage.com/category/transmission-pans Don't know but suspect cooler lines are low pressure and a remote filter in those lines might be a good idea, and again can be retained with a new filter when the transmission is replaced. Keep on truckin smoke.....the double deep may be the way to go....as Genoes includes gaskets and a filter with the Mag products

I put a double deep mag hytek pan on mine, and also an aux cooler with fan under the bed. When temps get up there towing the skidsteers plus having the plow on the front, I just flick a switch and the temps come down before they really get up there. Believe it or not, im still running the original tranny, and it has 417,000 kilometers on it.

Well yesterday it really scared me!!
Tight winding hill and had to let out of it for a curve, got right back in it, but she almost came to a dead stop and baaaaaarrrrreeeeelllyy got rolling again...I'm talking on the floor and have to look in the mirror to see if the trailer tires are turning to see if I'm moving!!
I KNOW that aint good, but I didn't dare let out of it!!!
Engine temp climbed to 220..and I know all the heat came from the trans!!

The torque converter is just WAAAY too loose.!!
I can turn 2500 rpm and she'll just look at me like I'm crazy!! With 4.10's!!!
Wondering if a lockup switch will save me...
Lockup hasn't slipped yet, but when it unlocks its pathetic!!!

Thought I had slippage under load, but when it got just a little worse I realized it was surging due to fuel starvation when I had er maxed out.

Changed fuel filter Friday morning.
Much better.
Tugged a 12 x 24 at 60mph for 150 miles no problem!
But, I Can make the lockup slip now...
Gonna hook up the "dimmer switch" TC lock today and plumb the 100 gallon tank in the bed into the truck tank.

Is there any way to check if sufficient fuel pressure is getting to the injector pump?

Clunk, Not at the moment.
I think I'm getting plenty of fuel now, just gotta get the power to the rear wheels!!

The TC is cr@#. Hold the pedal on the floor and it spins 2500 constantly.
If I listen really close I can hear a slight change in tone when the tranny shifts, but it never puts enough load on the engine to pull the rpm down at all till the lockup engages.

Read about a reflash for certain models needed to make the lockup switch work. This one is outside the dates listed...10-96 if I remember correctly...but it doesn't work for some reason...??

Is it worth changing the TC without upgrading the tranny??
I expect it to fail eventually, most say it will, but how long?
It's certainly a pain to try and tow with!!
I have noticed it shifts FIRMLY, more so than stock. Wonder what's been done to it...
Last owner said his brother-in-law was a tranny man and had looked at it & said it was all good.

Any tranny experts around??

MAX said something about Tim Holt is no longer with us.
Does that mean he left the site or the planet....?
