Yup, what he said, I had to get towed home a few months ago, truck died under load, but idled fine etc, fuel filter was loose, time before that a few years back, the small 10mml bolt you crack open to bleed the air when you prime the fuel filter, mine worked its way loose and sucked air into the system. Also you may want to check the wires going to the fuel solenoid, the connectors can come loose with age. Hope one of these ideas work for you Coug, if not, you might as well scrap it, and ill give you my ph no.

I have a bad feeling my pump is going south. Went through everything yesterday morning and everything was perfect. Got the idle adjusted, starting up fine, no problems. Went to the fuel station to fill the reserve and,,,,,,,. Before I shut it down at the station it was idling fine in gear. After pumping 75 gallons I went to turn it around to fill the other side. It started normal, but died as soon as I put it in gear. Started right back up and died again as soon as I put it in gear. Finally got it turned around and filled up. Drove it the 8 miles home and guess what, it kept running in gear at idle. As I think back on it, the day before was run, park, run, park, drive home. HEAT SOAK! That is when the pump is failing. During that time after shut down when there is no air movement and the engine heats up the pump. Looks like I have a pump replacement in my immediate future.

Hey Cougar, I'm guessing you're talking about the '01 now.
What do you think of the possibility of a little water in the fuel?
Did the Check Engine light come on?
Mine didn't act like that when the pump quit....it was hard to start then it wouldn't start at all a coupla days later except when I gave it a shot of ether then it would start and run fine.
Never a Check Engine light during that period too.

No, the 92. And It is heat soak related. I can reproduce it easily. Shut it down after driving a while, then try to restart and put in gear after about 5 minutes or so. It dies every time. Let it cool back down for an hour or so, or don't shut it down after driving and it idles fine in gear at a stop.
