I have a long wheel base 2003 QC ... with the 5th wheel hitch, a folding tonneau cover, the two of us, a full tank of fuel, my truck weighs in at 7100lbs......

Since you say "brand new" I take it you have a '03 or '04.. the automatic is a 48RE 4 speed.. with 4th being the overdrive... if the tranny is not hunting or doing an excessive amount of...

I just got back from my trip to SD with a return through CO. Total milage for the trip was a tick under 3900... pulling a 2200lb bike/trailer combo with about 200lbs in the bed, I averaged 15.9mpg...

Just filled up... mpg calculated to 15.8... allowing for variances in how far up the filler neck I went this time, that's fairly close to what the trip computer reported at 16.2... still about 1 mpg...

Picked up my '03 yesterday morning finally... drove it down to the local license folks and got all that taken care of... dealer put a half-tank of fuel in for me.. so I headed to a local truck stop...

I will be happy with 16-17 mpg as my '01 Dak QC 4x4 with a 4.7L auto, 3.55 gears was averaging 14 mpg mix driving.... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Thanks for the welcome to the board and thanks for the all the advice.... If I can get the milage on the truck, I may change the oil before I leave for South Dakota... if not, I will at least do that...
