Here is the first start to the build up.

I started with the pistons as we will be sending these out to have the domes and the skirts coated with Gold Coat and PM . This is a thermoberic coating along with moly disulfied to resist galling of the skirts. This is done by http://www.swaintech.com .

So I went to Auborn Machining where a fiend of mine Dave the Polish Wizard does his magic. We where going to use the Mora Seiki but found out that we could not use it as we would have to make a fixture or buy one . So we used the ol' lathe and it did a fine job. We cut .030 off of the dome for performance reasons .

Here is the start and set up as we indicate the face and the body of the piston in the four jaw chuck. It took us about 15 minutes avarage a piston to indicate and 30 seconds to cut.

Me I get the easy stuff. Notice that killer new shop shirt.

And the finished product. Now off to Swain Tech.

Well we got the pistons back and I have reassembled the pistons to the rods and installed a set of A1 rod bolts too along with a set of fresh rings.

The sides of the piston have been coated with PCM or Moly Disulfied dry film.

The tops of the piston have been coated with Gold Coat to resist extreme temps and pressures.

If you ever do one of these projects have this done to your pistons , it cost us about 400 bucks fo ours.

Next I have started with the bottom end and the girdle kit . This is a 5/8ths thick plate and will hold any additional load being created by the extra HP we are trying to achieve.

You will notice that we used pin gauges to to get a real accuate reading as to how much of the main bearing cap needs to machined. The amount being cut will be .105 thousands. This is critical too because the wrong measurement will mean a wrong torque value on the main bearings.

The bottom end main saddles have been drilled and tapped to bigger 14mm main studs. This was a lengthy process as it took me about 16 hours of shop time. The studs on the bottom are custom length for the girdle and are made by A1.

The top has 12mm studs ,I would have gone bigger but money at this time is getting tight. None the less done properly it will hold just fine. The studs on top are ARP.

So now it is off to the machine shop to mill the main caps.

Starting off going back together we installed the Helix 2 cam shaft from F1 Diesel . The cam is designed to work from idle to 4000 rpm so this is a plus in our application. As you can see it has a bolt on gear not a press on.

We put in all of the tappets first then installed the cam , don't forget the assembly lube .

Then we lubed the cam retainer and intalled it with the gear then torqured the gear retaining bolt to spec according to F1. Plus we used red Loctite on the threads of the retaining bolts.

Now it time to install the bearing ensuring that there is no problems with the bearings we inspected every one .

Well next after all of the studes have been taped out to 14mm it was time to install the cranshaft, take in care that the crank is VERY heavy and not to damage any of the journal surfaces.

Next we install the studs hand tight into the block using a 30w oil on the threads.

Next we installed the main caps after they had been milled by Auburn Machine and install the spacers on top of the caps . This will make out girdle sit flat and true to the block . Notice I marked the caps lower on the cap itself as the stock marks on the top have been milled off.

Notice that the front studs are a bit shorter than the rest . This was out first problem as they are too short to go through the girdle. So a few phone calls to JetPilot and all was better. We just needed the studs all the same from front to rear.

Now it is time to install the girdle and the oil pickup tube . Sorry but some pics have been lost during the process as my 3 year old decided to be a photograhper one morning. So I will explain as best as I can. After the plate had been installed the pistons went back in and as you can see here I was torqueing the rod journals to spec. We also replaced these rod bolts with A1 rod bolts that are 14mm also.

One may also ask what we used to seal the plate against the block . We use Aviation style Forma Gasket that stays plyable.

Notice how the seal has it's plastic install ring to aid in the install.

Next the rear oil seal and the plate were installed. The seal as well as the front seals are installed DRY no lube as they will not seal if a lubricant is used.

Now it is time to install the pan gasket and the pan. We used NO sealer between the gasket and the pan as it is not needed with our block girdle (We did use some sealer between the girdle and the block ;))

As you can also we have started some of the painting process to.

From there we used grade 8 bolts from Lawson Products to attach the pan . The bolts are also longer to as they have to go through the pan and the girdle into the block.

Well as you can see we are getting a little bored with waiting for the head to come back from Extrude Hone. So it's time to start doing other things .

So we got it off of the stand and put our DTT billet flexplate on .

And we got the engine put back into the chassis. We hooked up the full billet DTT after this along with out freshly rebuilt T/case with heavy duty parts.

Now we got our way cool oil filter relocation kit installed . Really this is a must for anyone doing twins because it eliminates the need to disassemble the intake system to change the filter. I would recommend one for everyone . I'm 6'3 and still hate leaning over the fender to do it.

Looks close to the dampner but really there is a 1/2 inch or better clearance.

Here's some pics of the FASS that http://www.fassride.com was so nice to sponsor us with. Thanks Brad Eckstam.

This is a FASS 45 PSI model that will provide sufficiant amount of fuel to the P/Pump.

I chose the weld the bracket as you can see , only because I know the little turd that will be abusing it.

Pluggin alone we went ahead a installed the Di Pricol gauges with MLR1 's very nice dash panel gauge pod that was custom made by him for us. We lay-ed the panel up against the dash bezel made some marks then went ahead and drilled the holes required. The we counter sunk the holes in the panel and used counter sunk sheet metal screws. Then we notched out the bezel to allow the wiring and boost tubing to fit through. All of the wires lay-ed very nice right in that large groove over to the headlight switch then routed down through the dash .

Well back to the motor.

As you can see we will control boost pressure via a 60mm JGS wastegate.

Then we busy putting the head back on . The head must be installed without the studs as they get in the way of doing things. We left only two short ones in to align the head when installing it.

After this we installed studs the push tubes and then installed the rocker arm assemblies. Now once this is done we can torque the head to spec. Which in this case was 125 to 135 for our studs.

Something is wrong with this last pic.

Just a joke BC.

Here is where we started to snug the head studs then torque.

This pic kinda reminds you of Two Clowns INC. doesn't it.

Sorry we did not get any more detailed pics as we where in a time crunch. So we got the injectors installed ,valvecovers, lines and other misc stuff.

And so the finished product. This was a labor of love so to speak but not without the sweat to go with it.
