Okay. After puttering about with this issue, here is where we stand.
1) The problem stemmed from an old avatar maximum size setting of 64x64. The new forum for whatever reason enabled 64x100, and that is where the "stretch" came from...it seems a whole bunch of avatars were resized to that setting, even though their original size was 64x64.
2) I have reset the forum to accept a new maximum size of 100x100. That should give y'all a little room to play if you want a new avatar.
3) The stretch seemed to only affect external pictures. If your image is stretched, you will need to reload your avatar. Make sure the picture is set to a MAX size of 100x100. Re-enter the url to the pic in your profile settings. That should correct any distortion.
4) Now...one feature we MIGHT enable is the ability for users to load their own avatars onto our server. I need to check into the security issues a little further before we consider turning it on.
