So I'm less than impressed with the wiring job the RV place did on my truck. Nothing horribly wrong, if you don't include gathering up all the extra wire they added, zip-tieing into a tight bundle and including my boost hose in that bundle (kinked in 6 places - now need to replace).

My truck has had 5th wheel setup, truck camper setup and who knows what else in its previous life, but all that was removed before I bought it. There was a wire connected to the alternator output in the underhood PDC - wire clipped off but the ring connector is still there. The new wiring has the trailer Battery circuit connected directly to the battery with 12ga wire, to a 30 amp fuse on the firewall and then back to the trailer plug. Any reason to use the alternator post in the PDC vs battery connection? 12ga wire seems WAY too small - I think 4ga would be more appropriate, but can I get 4ga into the plug at the rear? Will have to check that out.

PDC has a relay marked "Trailer Relay" ... what's that for? Should there already be some factory wire somewhere in there?

I've been researching past threads and posts and confusion run a-muck-uth so I am hoping you guys and help narrow my search.

We recently moved up to a better pull trailer. The old trailer was about 3400 lbs dry weight, the new one is listed as 6100 lbs. As one can imagine my pulling power on the grades went south somewhat. We have not pulled any extended distance as of yet but the grades where I am are 7 to 9% and vary in length (usually 1 to 2 miles. With everything on board (truck+atv+loaded trailer) I believe I am close to 14k rolling weight

With the new trailer behind if I can start out about 60mph at the bottom in 4th gear at WOT I am usually below 50mph within a two mile climb. I know its heavier but I don't think I should be losing quite that much umph. If I had to shift to 3rd I think I would lose most of my speed and be in a worse position.

My first thought is to add a cold air kit and replace the exhaust to a 5 inch setup. The biggest Q tho is whether to chip the beast. I am reading there is not a lot to gain with a manual tranny vs the auto. I don't want to invest in something I only gain minimal with and I know for every plus gained one can expect a minus somewhere else. In reality I hoping to gain 50+hp and whatever torque.

Anyone else been in this boat that can share some thoughts??
