I will say its very confusing what to use when you read this stuff: Automatic Transmission, AS68RC......SLF [2] No AMSOIL Product Recommendation and yet when you go to [2] you see this: Manufacturer recommends Mopar AS68RC Automatic transmission fluid. So when you go to Automatic Transmission fluid for the 68RFE you see this: AP4 Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATFQT).

The AMSOIL ATF meets the spec, the revision is not out yet. The online look-up guide shows to use the Amsoil ATF. :)

Yes it's very confusing.

Dealer said the fluid for the aisin trans is 15 dollars a quart. What a rip off. AMSOIL ATF is half the cost. :)

i just payed $40 a gal from the dodge dealer for the ac68rc. it seems there the only one that i could find that had it. it lists for $58 per gal. and yes you need 2 gal.'s for this tranny. they also want $168 for the filter and $64 for the gasket. geno's has a much better deal for both. i got the gasket but did not need it. if anyone needs one . i'll sell it for what i payed + shipping. just take it slow taking the pan down and you should be ok.

AMSOIL ATF is $29.60 gal. $36 for the trans filter.

There is nothing special about the Aisin fluid, the Amsoil can be used. The ATF spec for the Aisin is JWS 3309

AMSOIL DIRECT REPLACEMENT FLUIDS

JWS 3309
ETL7045E and ETL8072B
Shell 3403

i know its way to high. i have been looking around to see what i can find for the next time. they used this type of tranny in a lot of midsize truck mostly the small cab over type. someone has to have this filter cheaper then dodge. it is a fleet guard filter. it even say replacement on the old filter and i have never had the tranny worked on.

here is the link off the AMSOIL site.

http://www.amsoil.com/products/transmission/transfluid_rec.aspx

Scroll down to the very bottom where is says :
DIRECT REPLACEMENT FLUIDS, the JWS 3309 meets the specifications.

JWS 3309
ETL7045E and ETL8072B
Shell 3403
Esso LT 71141

The Trans filter I posted is incorrect, my typo. I will check if one is listed for that trans.

No transmission filters available at this time for the 68re from Amsoil. The filter and spin on filter Geno's has. The one is expensive $132 and the spin on is $18

I just got the filters and fluid for my 68rfe today from the dealer and it was 83.38 out the door for 2gal of oil and both filters. The spin on was $14.03 and the sump was $25.35. Oil was $19 a gallon.

This trans requires ATF+4
So the AMSOIL ATF meets all specs. :)

The fluids that I have that meet the specs for the (AS68RC) transmission are as follows:
Mopar AS68RC
Mopar CVT+4
Shell ATF 3353

The 68RFE requires the ATF+4 or meeting that specification.

CORRECTION
I WAS INCORRECT IN STATED THAT THE AMSOIL ATF CAN BE USED IN THE AS68RC trans at this time. Which is not listed on my specs sheet at this time.

I was somewhat confused when looking up the fluid on the 2 transmission.

I appoligize for the incorrect info: And will contact Amsoil to see if there is a update on their specs.

From what I have found out that the fluid has to meet a 3309 spec on the Aisin AS68RC trans. Now this being true the Amsoil ATF does meet 3309 specs. I'm am waiting to here back to back this up. :)

Update on AS68RC ATF, the fluid is recommended for use in transmissions made by Aisin-Warner requiring fluids approved against JWS-3309, GM 9986195, Type T-IV and Audi G-052-025-A2 (These approved specs meet the Amsoil ATF )

Checking with AMSOIL on this. And will keep you posted. :)

Page 14 of this link will show you the Mopar AS68RC ATF and it's approved against specs.

Dealing with AISIN transmission fluid types can get real confusing Herb. We have 3 AISINs in the shop, FWD 6 speeds. Some say that the Amsoil will work, some say dont. We wanted to use the Amsoil but wound up just getting the dealer fluid to avoid problems with them. One thing we found is reading the dipstick top to get the right fluid in it. There was a year model split on one of them. M/V was required in one, T-IV in the other. The dealer had mixed M/V with T-IV and ruined it. As we understood it, these fluids mix like oil and water.

These FWDs have huge issues with VB wear and solonoid problems as it is. The factory fluid breaks down fast because of the heat and how little they hold.

68RFE is just a bigger version of the 45RFE and I personally dont see an issue with Amsoil, the AISIN on the other hand, well I would use the OEM stuff for right now.

Does Amsoil have a replacement for DEX 6 ?
